Hotel Sonia Otaru

Our stay was fantastic value for money, with a spacious and beautifully refurbished room that had all the amenities we needed. The location was unbeatable, right by the canal, and the staff treated us with really good friendliness and professionalism.

Breakfast offerings could include more variety in pastries.

Wonderful breakfasts, with salmon and also mostly Japanese food. Central heating, flat-screen TV and a safe box in the room and the very comfy bed. Favourable and excellent location near delicious restaurant, easy to get anywhere. Also - really close to the river and very comfortable beds and the shopping streets...

The staff were pleasant, as I could only expect. The morning breakfast was wonderful with salmon and mostly Japanese food, for example.

The onsen was super relaxing after a day of exploring. The staff were helpful in making reservations nearby. Just a bit of a hassle with the parking situation 🅿️

Great location (just opposite the famous Otaru Canal)

Good location, directly opposite the canal. Free rental of bicycle provided. Good and helpful staff. Highly recommanded.

we had a lovely stay at the sonia, with a charming room that offered a beautiful view of the canal. the decor gave off a cozy, continental vibe, making it an inviting space to relax. the location was fantastic, just a short stroll from the train station, and we appreciated the friendly reception staff who made check-in and check-out a breeze. the room and bathroom were spotless, adding to the overall pleasant experience during our two-night visit.

It's fairly cozy and compared to usual Japan hotel it's quite spacious.

Not very near to the Jr. Around 15mins walk

The building shows signs of wear, particularly in the rooms, with damaged furniture and outdated decor. I experienced issues with room cleanliness. The room was not thoroughly cleaned, including hair and dirt in various spots. Internet access was unreliable, as guests were informed that not all areas had connectivity. Parking options were awkward. The designated parking was icy and unclear, leading to confusion about where to park.

The room is small and stuffy. The hotel is located next to a busy road and thus opening the window means putting up with traffic noise through out the night. The sofabed sinks in the middle and provides no support for the back.

I do love the location which very closed to the canal..

The room enjoyed an amazing view of the canal, perfect for sipping coffee while marveling at the scenery. The size of the room surprised me, offering plenty of space for our family. The breakfast at the restaurant impressed everyone, especially the variety of dishes available. The cleanliness in the room didn't meet expectations. I noticed some stains on the furniture and dust in the corners. The air conditioning unit was not functioning well. The bathroom had minor issues like a broken toilet lid and poor water pressure in the shower, inconvenient. The check-in process was somewhat slow, and staff could use more training . It seemed like they were overworked. The location is fantastic, being close to local attractions, but the small restaurant often struggled with crowds during breakfast hours.

The onsen facilities were clean and provided a much-appreciated escape from the winter cold after a day of exploring. The front desk staff were helpful, and the spacious lobby added to the hotel’s charm. Breakfast was good, and having restaurants nearby made dining convenient.

Nothing 😒 about the experience that stood out negatively.

I recently stayed for three nights at this lovely boutique hotel while exploring the area. The location is unbeatable, right across from the canal, making it easy to enjoy picturesque views. The breakfast was a highlight, featuring grilled salmon and fresh tempura. Our corner room was spacious by Japanese standards, and the staff was accommodating, helping with our parking needs. The hotel’s cleanliness and charm enhanced our experience.
